An online workshop with performer participants. In a brief presentation, Dr. Johnson will share her experience incorporating inclusivity and cultural awareness teaching voice class for the last 12 years to a widely diverse body of students at UC Berkeley. She will also share resources for repertoire by black composers and talk about her journey to create her own blend of opera, gospel, and jazz. She will then work with performers to address such topics as style, cultural sensitivity, and authentic interpretation. Together, we will find a safe space to be inspired and challenged as we step out of our comfort zones to explore new ways to teach singing with diversity in mind.
