Online Workshop: Neurodiversity in the Voice Studio with Jagmeet Kaur Sangha, M.A., BCBA, Founder of Behavioral Pivot Consulting

Neurodiversity refers to the variation in all human cognition. It is as important for our social communities as biodiversity is for the planet. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, Dyslexia, Tourettes, and other related conditions are all examples of neurodivergent abilities. The performing arts field offers a unique opportunity for individuals with neurodiverse traits to find their voice, communicate their experiences and showcase their authentic talents through various forms of artistic expressions. Therefore, creating neuro-inclusive spaces within the arts is exceptionally important to help individuals to embrace and unlock their unique potentials.

In this workshop, we will discuss evidence-based strategies from the science of behavior analysis that promote neuro-affirming learning. Participants will be guided to explore their individual values, identify their strengths, and build self-advocacy skills for themselves as well as their students. These practices support the social acceptance of brain-based differences and foster inclusive environments that help all individuals flourish within their own talents. In this online workshop:

  • Participants will be able to define the impacts of neurodiversity within the teaching studio and how it affects different learning types.

  • Participants will engage in a values discovery journey, using evidence-based methods, leading to strength-based goal setting.

  • Participants will develop methods to embed executive functioning systems that promote goal setting and independence.
